Archive for Staying motivated
Have you ever got to a point where you thought to yourself that you couldn’t continue? It happens to me more than I would like to admit. I will get overwhelmed with a situation, and then give up or reduce the amount of effort I put forth. We need to learn to breakthrough theses personal walls that separate us from completing what we need to do.
Runners in marathons and long races will visualize walls at certain points in the race, and use them to break up the race. They will concentrate on getting to the next wall, or point, instead of the finish line. Once they get close to a wall, they use all there effort to break through the wall and continue on with the race. This keeps the mind fresh which helps them to stay motivated.
Incorporate this technique into your daily life. If you have a long day ahead of you, break up the day and set up walls that you need to break through. You should set the walls close to the times where your most difficult tasks need to be completed. Focus on breaking through the next wall, not the end of the day. This will keep your mind fresh and keep you focused on the tasks at hand. Once you break through a certain wall, set up a new wall to demolish. Imagine yourself being in a marathon and not a sprint. We don’t want to tire ourselves out within the first couple of hours, so we set up walls and short term completion goals for the day that we need to reach and ultimately pass.
In doing this, you will keep your mind fresh which in return will keep you motivated on breaking through to the next wall.
Remember, don’t picture the finish line, just picture that next wall that you need to knock down…
Are you a high energy person? Are you a low energy person? Are you drained at the end of the day? Do you go to work tired? Do you need coffee to increase your energy? Do you need cigarettes , alcohol, or drugs to “give you a lift”? Are you part of the human energy crisis or are you a natural high energy person?
I once went into a store and watched the energy level of the employees. The store was air conditioned and the owner invested much money in equipment and atmosphere. There was one missing ingredient. The employees had low energy for life, for the customers, for the company, and for themselves. These employees took energy away from people. They created a toxic environment.
As you perform your job, what takes away your energy and what increases your energy? For example, when you speak, do people listen? Listening creates energy. Ignoring someone takes away energy. Asking questions creates energy. Making statements can take energy away. Giving people affirming Self-Esteem messages creates energy. Criticizing, blaming or punishing kills energy. Giving recognition creates energy. Withholding recognition kills energy. Asking someone for help creates energy. Denying your feelings takes away energy.
Would you like to have high energy every day? If you said “yes”, then consider doing some of the following:
1. Release criticizing yourself and others.
2. Release comparing yourself with others.
3. Release getting angry and resentful.
4. Release blaming anyone for anything.
5. Release working or living in a toxic environment.
6. Start giving Self-Esteem messages to everyone.
7. Start giving compliments to everyone.
8. Start an exercise program and learn to relax.
9. Start a nutritional eating program.
10. Start learning new skills daily.
Hang around high energy people and then, watch what happens!

Did you ever hear an idea and get excited about it? Did you ever tell other people about your idea, and then not take action to develop a plan to achieve success with it? Do you agree ideas are a dime a dozen? Do you feel that every person can think of a unique idea? Do you believe when a person is enthusiastic about their idea, that it is possible other people could want to kill the idea? Just what is it that causes such destructive thinking?
Let’s look at an example. The McGrane Self-Esteem Institute exists for one reason – global Self-Esteem. That is our mission – the outcome for our existence. We do this by giving keynote speeches, Self-Esteem programs, consulting and other special one to five day programs. People attend our program from all 50 states. When they complete the sessions they often go home all excited about the Self-Esteem principles. Most graduates recognize how the ideas can help them in their relationships and career. Many decide to integrate the information into their life.
Very often the most significant people in their lives criticize or reject their new ideas and behavior. They usually are shocked by these rejections and sometimes question what they learned. They may hear such comments as, “Listen I talked with you the day before you attended the Self-Esteem program. Don’t tell me you have changed. You will never change. Those ideas will never work.”
This is the moment of truth. It is time for belief, persistence, and commitment. As you review history, you will find many individuals who have experienced rejection and criticism. Here are a few: Thomas Edison, Elizabeth Kubler-Ross, Henry Ford, Alexander Graham Bell, Margaret Mead, the Wright brothers, and Virginia Satir. So what is the message about ideas? It is simple. The person with a burning desire and intact Self-Esteem does the following:
1. Gets rejected yet does not feel rejected or take it personally.
2. Invests energy daily in moving forward.
3. Looks for resources to help create success.
4. Has a 15 year vision to integrate the idea.
5. Never gives up.
6. Is thirsty to be a role model for others.
7. Invests in a Lifelong Learning program.
8. Is ready to commit to the ideas.
