Get Active!

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Many of us probably think we don’t have much time to exercise, but did you know that walking for just 30 minutes a day will have significant health benefits for your body?  Along with the health benefits exercising can also lower stress and raise self-esteem.  I’m sure everyone has at least 30 minutes they could spare each day to get active and improve your health.

If you want to do more than walk, here are some ideas to get you on your feet:

  • Go hiking.  Hiking provide great scenery and the terrain can provide better exercise than walking.
  • Get some of your friends together and play a sport like basketball, soccer, football, etc.
  • If you have access to an indoor pool, go for a swim.
  • Lift weights.
  • Join a gym.
  • Try jogging a mile, if you can’t do the entire mile, do what you can and the next time you jog try to do a little more until you master the mile.
  • If you like golfing, golf and then walk to your ball instead of using a golf cart.

There are many different and fun ways to exercise, the key is to get on your feet and get active.  Whatever way you decide to exercise remember to have fun with it, by associating exercise with having fun you’ll be more likely to stick to it.

I once heard a story about a man that was captured in the Vietnam War and thrown into a POW camp.  He kept his spirits alive by visualizing playing 18 holes at his favorite course back home in the States.  He would do this multiple times a day, every day.  He would put himself through countless scenarios in his head that ranged from shanks to perfect shots.  When he finally got back home and went golfing at his favorite course, his game wasn’t as diminished as someone who had spent a good amount of time in a POW camp should be.  This may be an extreme example, but it was a great story that I heard along my journey and it really inspires me.

Studies have shown, if you visualize accomplishing something and have a positive attitude, it is easier to attain success.  Today, I want you to visualize accomplishing a goal or a major project you are working on.  You should spend a fair amount of time going over the details and intricacies of this goal or project.  Actually see your self completing the task before you even embark on your journey.  Visualize yourself ecstatic and full of pride because you accomplished what you set out to do.  Visualize the steps you took to reach your goals as well as the problems that arose and how you navigated your way through them.  If you really spend time visualizing yourself being successful, you WILL increase the likelihood of completing this difficult task.

If you visualize all the problems that you might encounter during your journey, you will have better prepared yourself to overcome them because you have seen these not-so promising situations before.  Hopefully you will go over your plan of action so many times that if a problem does come up, it won’t rattle or surprise you.

Remember, before starting your day or week, visualize the so-called “impossible” tasks you have to get through.  Really dig deep and make sure you see yourself overcoming all obstacles that you may come across.  If you visualize being successful, chances are, you will be…

Random Acts of Kindness

Posted by: | Comments (0)

How do you feel when someone does something nice for you?  I’m willing to bet you felt good and even happy.  Receiving a kind gesture is something that brightens our days and makes us feel appreciated.  Kindness and love can heal or strengthen the soul and the world needs more of it.

I encourage you to partake in a random act of kindness to someone you know or even a complete stranger.  There are many things you could do and the possibilities are endless, but here are some ideas that you could use:

  • Help an elderly person with their groceries.
  • If you’re on a bus that’s full give your seat to someone who needs it more.
  • Hold the door open for someone.
  • Give a loved one a card that shows them you care.
  • If someone is a little short on their purchase pay the difference for them.
  • Help a person in need.
  • Give to charity.
  • Befriend someone in need of a friend.
  • Volunteer at a homeless shelter.
  • Buy flowers for a loved one.

The possibilities really are endless, and if someone wants to return the favor ask only that they do a random act of kindness for someone else.  The principle of paying it forward is like the butterfly effect, if you do something nice for someone it could start a domino effect where people who have received a random act of kindness will then pay it forward and do something nice for someone else.  If everyone followed the principle of paying it forward the world would only change for the better.

Remember to treat everyone with TUL, Total Unconditional Love.

Have a great day!
