Olympic compliment good as Gold
ByWatch this video and you will see an amazing example of “killing someone with kindness”.
Evan Lysacek is an American figure skater participating in this year’s Winter Olympics. He was the underdog and was not predicted to win the gold medal. After he won the Gold medal, the skater that was predicted to win the Gold but got Silver expressed his feelings of disgust. He thought he did enough to win the Gold and was angry that Evan won.
This is a wonderful example of staying grounded and not letting other people drag you down to their level. In the moment of his greatest accomplishment, he kept his composure. It would have been easy for him to fire back with a hurtful statement or flaunt his victory, but he didn’t. He made it out to be not a big deal and it really showed a lot about his character.
Evan really composed himself like a true champion. He was extremely gracious to the other contestants and the Olympic committee as a whole. He took a hate filled comment and turned it into something positive. He said all the right things in a difficult situation. He could have very easily bashed the other guy and paraded his Gold medal around, but he didn’t. He was understated and respectful to everyone and everything that is associated with the Olympics. That is a great sign of a true champion.
No one likes to come in second. A lot of times it is referred to as, “The first loser” and people do not feel a sense of accomplishment. It hurts more especially when you have been working your whole life to come in first. We need to realize that it is important to keep our composure in tough situations like this. It really shows who you truly are and what you are all about.
Have you ever had someone become angry because of success you have achieved? How did it make you feel? How did you respond to that person?
If you are ever in a situation like this, try your hardest to act as gracious as possible. It will show that you have strong character and that you are a good person at heart.
Always strive for the Gold, but if you come up short don’t make excuses. Keep your head up and continue working hard.
