Do you have strong Self-Esteem or a Strong Self-Image?
ByHave you ever wanted to BE or DO something else? Are you ever been rejected by others because of what you think, say, do, feel, and act? Is it important for you to have peace of mind? Would you be interested in discovering ways to acquire peace of mind?
We live in a self-image society. Every day we are bombarded with images of what we “should”, “ought”, or “must” BE or DO for acceptance. Television, radio, the internet, movies, magazines, books, clothing, cartoons, billboards and more, are constantly advertising to our society. I’ll talk to you or be your friend if you: wear the correct clothes, live in a particular neighborhood, drive a specific car, go to a certain school, have a proper job, have my values, and the list goes on and on.
Self-image is an imitation or representation of a person. It is what one would like to… project to the world. It is comparison. Self-image is unreal, it does not exist. When you choose self-image you are wearing a mask. Self-image takes a lot of energy. You constantly have to remember which mask you use with every person in your life. This can be very draining!
With Self-Esteem, which is the self respect I feel for myself, you can BE you all the time. There is no need to wear masks. You can go in and out of other peoples’ world’s on their terms, even if you do not agree with their behavior or values. You have T.U.L. (Total Unconditional Love) for every person, but not necessarily their behavior. You may not like behaviors and circumstances. However, with Self-Esteem you are willing to accept whatever is going on. You respond to things in a manner that keeps Self-Esteem intact. With Self-Esteem you accept the responsibility to not condone incompetence and you have the skills to describe your feelings the moment you experience them.
The key to Self-Esteem is to first, accept yourself – just the way you are – right now! Second, release value judging yourself, others and circumstances. Third, affirm and act on the outcomes you want. Fourth, if something isn’t working do anything else and then watch what happens.
