Eating Healthy

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Let’s face it food is good, and it seems like the worse it is for you the better it tastes.  But it is important to eat healthy.  Eating healthy will lead to a much healthier life; you’ll lose weight and have more energy. Also just because you’re eating healthy doesn’t mean you need to deprive yourself of the snacks and junk food you love.  It’s all about moderation.

One of the hardest things to cut out of a diet is carbs, but you don’t have to cut them out to be healthy, in fact some carbs are good for you.  The problem with carbs is that what you don’t burn off during the day gets stored as fat because your body can’t break down the carbohydrates properly.  So practice moderation when eating carbs.  You could also opt for whole wheat instead of white bread, whole wheat is a much healthier bread/dough and with some whole wheat foods such as whole wheat pasta you can’t even tell the difference.

This might sound obvious but eat a lot of vegetables, the more vegetables the better.  Vegetables give your body vitamins and energy and are the healthiest foods you can eat.  Fruits are good too but they are high in sugar so don’t go overboard.  You might opt for fruit juice instead of a soda thinking it’s a lot better for you but there is a lot of sugar in fruit juice and drinking too much of it can lead to weight gain.  Fruits would be an excellent substitute for junk food and deserts, you get the sweetness your craving along with healthy benefits.

You should limit the amount of soda you’re drinking as much as possible.  Even if it’s diet soda it is still bad for your body.  You’ll lose pounds by simply cutting out soda from your diet.    You can’t get better than water when it comes to hydrating your body, but if you want something sweeter a good substitute for soda is tea.  Unsweetened tea has antioxidants that are good for your body and adding a little artificial sweetener will make it a tasty 0 calorie drink.

Like I said earlier you can still eat some junk food but keep it in moderation if you’re at a birthday party and they are serving cake have a couple bites instead of an entire piece.  Or you could give yourself 1 – 2 cheat days a month where you can eat what you want and then go back to no junk food until your next cheat day.  But if you opt to go the cheat day route don’t go overboard, one junk food smorgasbord can screw up your entire week of eating healthy.

So eat healthy, live healthy and have a wonderful day!

Hazards of Smoking

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Smoking is terribly unhealthy habit that is taken up by many people.  Besides the well known risk of causing cancer, there are also some lesser known risks.  I’m sure many of you have seen the new commercials showing the consequences of smoking but if you haven’t, let me inform you about a few of them.

Smoking can lead to strokes many of which are severe.  A stroke could paralyze some facial muscles but a severe stroke could paralyze your entire body.  Smoking can also lead to the loss of body parts.  The carcinogens inhaled while smoking can lead to Peripheral Vascular Disease where blood will stop circulating to parts of your body this will end in losing fingers or toes or worse case scenario the loss of entire limbs.  Smoking could lead to Coronary Heart Disease.  Coronary Heart Disease leads to heart attacks which could result in death.  These are just a few of the risks there are many more terrible and deadly risks for smoking.

Smoking can lead to so many health risks but there are ways to quit.  Many people try to stop cold turkey by simply stop smoking without any help.  People who stop smoking cold turkey usually aren’t successful so here are some ways to help you stop smoking.

  • Nicorette Gum – This gum gives you slight doses of nicotine (what makes cigarettes addictive) to help with the urges and wean you off of cigarettes.
  • Patch – The patch like Nicorette Gum gives you slight doses of nicotine there are 3 week patches which you use every day for 3 weeks, then 2 week and 1 week patches.  From what people have told me if you do 2 sets of each step (2 sets of the 3 week patches leading to a total of 6 weeks, 2 sets of the 2 week patches leading to a total of 4 weeks etc.)  it’s easier to quit smoking.
  • Fake cigarettes – These are herbal or electric cigarettes that you smoke that don’t have any of nicotine or carcinogens, and when used with the patch or gum help to quit smoking.  These fake cigarettes work to trick the mind into thinking your still smoking so the urges aren’t as bad.  You use these until you don’t need any help fighting the urges.
  • Acupuncture or Hypnosis – These are methods that some people swear by but for most people they aren’t very effective.

Smoking is something you should never start but if you do there are ways to help you quit.  The greatest help for quitting smoking is determination you have to want to quit and work hard.

I wish you the best in your endeavors; have a smoke free and delightful day!

How open are you?

Posted by: | Comments (0)

How open are you to new experiences and to people in general?

Being open to new experiences to some extent is important because you never want to limit yourself.  You never know what you will find if you keep an open mind.  You could discover new friendships that otherwise would of never existed.  Being open to new experiences could bring a new happiness into your life.  When you keep an open mind, you learn more through different experiences and you can draw many positive things from them.

Do you tend to not stray from the path?

Sometimes, taking the road less traveled can reveal so much.  If we don’t keep an open mind to new experiences and friendships, we are only hurting ourselves.  There is so much to be discovered even if we think we have seen it all.  The truth is, we haven’t seen it all.  We can always continue to grow and learn from our new beginnings.

If you find yourself being closed-minded, then try to open up a little.  Maybe step outside of your comfort zone and try something different.  Take a salsa dancing class, listen to a new genre of music, or simply be more open to the people around you.  Everyone has a story, and there are some great ones out there.  I like to take something out of every new situation I am in.  If I try something different, I try to learn from it.

So what are some good ways to open up a little bit?

Remember to always stay open, because you never know what you might learn.
