Giving it your all?

Posted by: Bill | Comments (0)

If a job is worth doing, it is worth doing well.

Are you stuck in a routine that is not maximizing your potential?

Do you feel that you are just going through the motions, and not making the type of impact that you expect from yourself?

It happens to everyone.  We get too comfortable with where we are in life and don’t continue to push ourselves.  We need to stay determined and inspired everyday.  Everyday we need to push ourselves harder than the previous…

The fact is there is no reason NOT to give 100% in everything you do.  The gift of life is too precious to waste on mediocracy.  Try not to measure yourself with other people and just do the best that YOU can do.  Whether it be at the office or at home, always try to strive for excellence.

If you are not giving it your all in everything you do, change today.  I know it is hard to stay motivated and sometimes it seems no matter how hard we work, the end result will be the same.  But you should get personal satisfaction out of trying your best and seeing the finished product that you put so much hard work into.  It will increase your overall feeling about yourself and people will start to notice that you give it your all in whatever you do.  Good things happen to people who work hard and stay determined.

So if you feel you are not giving it your all in your daily life, make a change.  Start today.  It will increase your daily productivity and you will accomplish more.

It is a new decade and it can be a new you as well…

I once heard a story about a man that was captured in the Vietnam War and thrown into a POW camp.  He kept his spirits alive by visualizing playing 18 holes at his favorite course back home in the States.  He would do this multiple times a day, every day.  He would put himself through countless scenarios in his head that ranged from shanks to perfect shots.  When he finally got back home and went golfing at his favorite course, his game wasn’t as diminished as someone who had spent a good amount of time in a POW camp should be.  This may be an extreme example, but it was a great story that I heard along my journey and it really inspires me.

Studies have shown, if you visualize accomplishing something and have a positive attitude, it is easier to attain success.  Today, I want you to visualize accomplishing a goal or a major project you are working on.  You should spend a fair amount of time going over the details and intricacies of this goal or project.  Actually see your self completing the task before you even embark on your journey.  Visualize yourself ecstatic and full of pride because you accomplished what you set out to do.  Visualize the steps you took to reach your goals as well as the problems that arose and how you navigated your way through them.  If you really spend time visualizing yourself being successful, you WILL increase the likelihood of completing this difficult task.

If you visualize all the problems that you might encounter during your journey, you will have better prepared yourself to overcome them because you have seen these not-so promising situations before.  Hopefully you will go over your plan of action so many times that if a problem does come up, it won’t rattle or surprise you.

Remember, before starting your day or week, visualize the so-called “impossible” tasks you have to get through.  Really dig deep and make sure you see yourself overcoming all obstacles that you may come across.  If you visualize being successful, chances are, you will be…

How relaxed are you?

Life is stressful.

Between work, family, and everything else, sometimes we forget to stop and smell the roses.

This is how we become overly stressed to the point where it affects our daily lives.  When we keep pushing ourselves to be more productive and neglect relaxation or “Me Time”, the stress will accumulate and eventually be too much.  It is nearly impossible to eliminate all stress, but the important thing is we recognize our stress levels and attempt to manage them.

Have you ever had a super busy week and then the littlest hiccup sets you off?  Our goal here today is to not let you get to the point where a messed up coffee order is the last straw.  You need to manage your stress by countering it with relaxation.  When you start to feel your “blood boil” or feel slightly “on-edge”, take five minutes to engage in something that relaxes you.  There are many activities and techniques you can use to increase relaxation, but those should be things you come up with on your own.  You need to find something that is special to you and really centers your mind, body, and soul.

When I am overly stressed, I like to do a light meditation.  I will turn off my phone, computer, and outside world for five minutes while I try to center myself.  I start by controlling my breathing by taking deep breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth.  I then will gently move my feet back and fourth and give all my concentration to this action.  This will clear my mind and help me to focus on myself.  I do this for a few minutes continuing to concentrate on my breathing and then I will slowly open my eyes.  As I quickly get acclimated back into my busy life, I feel more relaxed and centered.

Your relaxation techniques can be anything you want it to be.  It could be to take a break and read a book or your favorite magazine for a few minutes when you feel overly stressed.  It could be going outside to get some fresh air or take a quick walk.  Anything that works for you.

Overall you need to recognize when your stress levels are getting too high.  Once you recognize you are getting stressed out, you need to take a break from what you are doing and center yourself with your own personalized relaxation technique.  If you take these simple and quick steps to reducing your stress levels, you will see a major improvement in the way you feel day-to-day.

Life is full of complications, the trick is to try and make it as less complicated as you can.

Don’t be afraid to stop and smell the roses…
